Enchanting Rubein Castle lies on the eastern outskirts of Obermais, a suburb of Meran in Upper Italy. This stately 12th century castle, with a melodious name, is set in magnificent flourishing, park-like grounds full of splendid mature trees and with a large lawn as well as a swimming pool. Although the building is like a fortress in appearance, it was hardly ever intended for serious battles. At the end of the 19th century the interior was drastically modernised. The owner, a well-known artist in the area, spent the rest of his life here. Innumerable paintings still decorate the castle today.
It is amongst the most beautiful and habitable castles of Meran. The large conference and breakfast rooms, that are ideal for celebrations, are located in the entrance area. Famous singers such as Pavarotti and Lucio Dalla have utilised this idyllic retreat for rehearsal on many occasions. On the first floor one finds the Chapel Apartment, which can accommodate up to eight people, and an additional spacious suite. The second floor contains three apartments each for four people. One reaches the wonderful suite on the top floor of the five-storey “residential tower” via a spiral staircase. Each holiday apartment has a telephone and television. Restaurants are within a few minutes walking distance. On request, the guests of the holiday apartments can take part in the morning breakfast for a supplementary price.
