With its charm and Mediterranean atmosphere, Hamburg ranks among Germany's most beautiful cities. The seaport at the Elbe river is full of city life and cultural experiences, nature and interesting shopping. The Hanseatic city's landmark is the "Michel", the tower of St.Michaelis church, from where one can enjoy fantastic views of the city, the port and the surroundings. The Alster river offers numerous leisure activities. Hamburg is famous for its port, which is the second largest in Europe and is visited by approximately 13,000 ships each year. The cruise terminal, the historical Speicherstadt and the container harbour are the gateway to the big, wide world. Hamburg's fish market is an absolute must for anyone visiting the city. Since 1703, citizens and visitors deal in various goods from all over the world here. For evening entertainment, St.Pauli is still the first choice. Along the Reeperbahn, there is a great number of bars, restaurants, cafes, shops and live-clubs, where even the Beatles played at that time. Hamburg has a lot of cultural events on offer, for example internationally renowned musicals like "Lion King" or "Dirty Dancing".
