Hydra

The islands in the Saronic and Argolic gulfs lie between the south-eastern coast of the Peloponnese and the west coast of Attica. The historic and picturesque island of Hydra is famous for its traditional architecture from the early last century. It´s a rendezvous point for many artists and painters. A branch of the Arts Academy continues the tradition of painting here. There are no cars on the island, donkeys provide the transport for longer distances. On the quayside of the port there are many cafes, restaurants, jewellery shops and art galleries. Narrow, steep streets, bare hillsides with white churches on them and paths along the seashore invite you to discover the island on foot.
