The city is especially famous for it's extraordinary location in the water, it's eventful history, which has left a number of architectural and monumental sights, and for the Carnival of Venice. For many people, the city of the gondolas is the epitome of romance. Indeed, it is a special experience to float on the small and larger canals of Venice in a gondola, passing by bridges and little squares. On any city tour, by foot or boat, major sights, such as Piazza San Marco or the Rialto Bridge, shall not be missed. As the great number of churches and palaces shows, Venice has been of great importance in the renaissance and baroque era.
