Liguria lies in the north-western part of Italy and borders France in the west, Piemont and Emilia-Romagna in the north and Tuscany in the south-west. This part of the coast offers sandy beaches, hiking trails, high mountains and steep cliffs. The capital of Liguria is Genoa. One of the highlights of Liguria is the region Cinque Terre. The landscape surrounding these "five villages" is especially popular with ramblers, although the villages themselves are quite frequented during high season. On the coast of Liguria, there are also the famous bathing resorts San Remo near the French border and the romantic port of Portofino in the east of Genoa.
